Engaging students to write procedure texts through the culturally-relevant activity of bark painting

For most EFL students, writing in English is a boring and challenging skill; therefore, creative attractive media such as bark painting needed. Bark one of the cultural heritages that has not been valued recognized by Papuan young people culturally important medium. This study aimed at exploring ways engaging students to write procedure texts using finding importance infusing teaching text. descriptive-qualitative took place Jayapura, Papua, Indonesia, between January March 2021. There were Social Science program, 5 Senior High School teachers, 3 tribal chiefs, elders, painters, 2 practitioners involved participants. The data collected observation, interview, FGD (Focus Group Discussion). From analysis, found learning text painting, they could effectively enthusiastically learn social functions, generic structure, linguistic features with which close them, indirectly disseminate heritage well good character elders.
